About Spedra
What is Spedra?
Spedra works by relaxing muscles in the walls of the blood vessels. Sexual stimulation increases the blood flow to the penis. Following sexual stimulation, Spedra helps to produce an erection that will be firmer and longer lasting. Its effects can last for up to 4 hours.
Is Spedra suitable for you?
Spedra is not suitable for everyone and will not be prescribed to anyone under the age of 18 years. It is therefore important that our doctor knows your full medical history.
Our doctors may only prescribe this medicine with special care or may not prescribe it at all if you:
- are allergic or sensitive to or have had a reaction to any of the ingredients in the medicine
- have a medical condition that stops you from engaging in sexual activity. This includes certain heart and circulation problems such as angina
- have bleeding problems
- have conditions which increase the risk of priapism such as sickle cell anaemia, leukaemia or multiple myeloma
- have had a stroke
- have hereditary eye disorders
- have kidney problems
- have liver problems
- have loss of vision
- have low blood pressure
- have penile problems such as a deformed penis, Peyronie’s disease or penile scarring
- have recently had a heart attack
- have stomach ulcers
Can I take Spedra with other medicines?
Spedra can interact with some medicines used for the treatment of some heart conditions such as nicorandil or nitrates, such as GTN spray or isosorbide mononitrate. It is important to inform our doctors of any medicines you are taking whether they are prescribed or purchased over the counter.
How to take your Spedra
Spedra will take a short time to work and therefore should be taken 30 minutes before sexual activity. It can be taken with or without food, however, when taken with food can delay its effects. This medicine may not have the desired effect the first time it is taken, however, it can be more effective the next time it is taken. Spedra must not be taken more than once in 24 hour period.
To increase the effectiveness of this medicine, avoid taking this medicine with more than one or two units of alcohol.
If you are taking a class of medicine called alpha-blocker, you must leave at least six hours before taking this medicine. You must inform our doctor of any medicines you are taking.
Possible Side Effects of Spedra
Most people taking this medicine will not experience side effects. However, common side effects of taking this medicine can include headache, blocked nose, feeling dizzy, flushing, hot flushes, pounding heart, indigestion and nausea.
If you experience any eyesight problems you must stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor. If you experience any side effects, other than those listed, please inform a doctor.
